Updated: Head, torso found but still unidentified

Last Updated on Thursday, 26 March 2015, 16:26 by GxMedia

Guyanese police up to late Thursday did not identify the semi-nude body of an Afro-Guyanese female who was found in the vicinity of the Buxto foreshore early in the day.

Demerara Waves Online News was told that a 22-year old woman from East Ruimveldt has not been seen since Monday and she has not been answering or returning calls. Family members became concerned, according to sources, only after they were informed that the torso was found.

First, the woman’s torso was found at about 7:30 AM in the vicinity of Buxton, East Coast Demerara. Five hours later, police said the head of a female was found in the Annandale foreshore, East Coast Demerara as the water receded.

“It is suspected to be that of the woman whose body was found earlier on the foreshore,” said police spokesman, Ivelaw Whittaker.

“The head, legs and arms of the body are missing. Investigations are in progress,” police said in two separate statements.

The discovery of the torso and the head is the second incident in two days and the third for the month in which bodies have been discovered on the Atlantic coastline.

It was only Wednesday morning that the nude body of 14-year old Alicia Alli, a student of Campelville Secondary School, was found on the Turkeyen foreshore in the vicinity of UG (University of Guyana) Main Road.

Prior to the discovery of Alli’s body, a man’s remains were found on the Kitty foreshore about one week ago.
