Narcotics police dog handler on cocaine-related charge

A Police Narcotics dog-handler at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) was Wednesday arraigned and refused bail on a cocaine-related charge.

Jevon David,28, of Brighton Village, Corentyne, Berbice pleaded not guilty to procuring baggage handler Eon Persaud at the CJIA on May 23 to traffick in 3.498 kilogrammes of cocaine.

The cocaine was allegedly found in the cargo hold a Toronto-bound Caribbean Airlines flight.

David was remanded to prison until June 6 when he will appear at the Providence Magistrates’ Court. The dog handler was based on the CJIA for the past three years. The facts were not presented in court.

Baggage handlers 25-year old Eon Persaud of Hyde Park, Timehri and 20-year old Alex Seymour  are currently before the court. They have been accused of having 2.234 kilogramms of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking on May 23 at CJIA.

David is the second narcotics police dog handler to have been arrested in less than one month in connection with narco-trafficking, the first being 24-year old Constable Ian Johnson.

He and a now wanted man Mark “Polo” Mohabir had been allegedly in contact with a woman who was later allegedly caught at the Ogle International Airport with a quantity of cocaine and marijuana while she was an outgoing passenger to Barbados.
