Cocaine ‘sweets’ sicken North West children

Last Updated on Saturday, 26 December 2015, 21:00 by GxMedia

Three children from White Water , North West District were sickened by eating cocaine-stuffed sweets, according to well-placed sources.

Authorities said two businessmen have been questioned by police.

Their grandmother, Janet Samuels, said 11-year old Ashley Samuels, 13-year old Ann Samuels 13-year old Jalil O’Selmo were discharged from the Mabaruma hospital on Monday. She said they were still feeling weak and feverish and she planned to take them back to the hospital later Tuesday or Wednesday.  She said the police took possession of 10 additional sweets which also had cocaine.

Demerara Waves Online News (www.demwaves.com) was told that their parents checked and observed the substance in the sweets and took them to the hospital located about 10 miles north from their home village.

Sources said the children’s stomachshad been badly swollen and they had suffered from vomiting and diarrhea.

Police were called in and visited White Water on Monday.   A shopkeeper was arrested as it was suspected that he was selling the ‘’sweets’ to a selected market. Family members said the children had bought the sweets there and fell ill shortly after.

Police have also questioned a distributer at Kumaka, the main business hub, who sold the sweets to the shopkeeper at white Water. They are both claiming no knowledge of the drug since it was found within the sweets.
