Man shoots baby dead after breaking up with grandmother

Police were up to Sunday night hunting down a 45-year old man who opened fire at the home of his ex reputed wife, killing her one-month old granddaughter and injuring her teenage daughter.

Dead is 13-month old Ariane Gill. Injured is 12 year old Ashley Whittington. She was shot twice in the left thigh, police said.

Commander of the East Coast Demerara Division, Senior Superintendent Marlon Chapman said police were searching for Mark Angoy who opened fire at the house at Annandale, East Coast Demerara.

mark angoyUp to about five weeks ago, Angoy and Shelly Norton were living together at Annandale when she decided to end the relationship after months of disagreements and death threats. “From all appearances, it is some problem between him and the grandmother. He probably went to the house to see the grandmother but he didn’t see her so from the outside, he shot through the window fatally wounding the infant and the teen who was sitting in the sitting room,” said Chapman. At the time of the incident, Chapman said Norton was in her bedroom while

Chapman said Whittington was admitted a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.

It was not immediately clear whether Angoy knew that his ex partner was in the bedroom.

Norton told reporters that she decided to end the relationship because he often abused her and went to her home and smoked cocaine.

The woman said she gave him all of their possessions that they had at a shop they operated together in the interior.

In anguish, the woman  said she had recently reported to the police that he had threatened her and also a friend of hers also told police that Angoy had said that he would have shot her dead. a
