OPINION: Charles Ramson, Jr. for president, not just yet

Changes all over. New roles. It’s Miller Time in the White House. Hakeem Jeffries and the Democrats time on Capitol Hill. Where does this leave GT, especially the PPP?

The Jagdeo-Ali Axis had reach, clout: Rubio, Continental. Special relationship, U.S. friendship. The Continental den mother is gone; Marco Rubio has his flanks to guard. The knives are out. Iran. JD Vance jumped first; so, Mr. Rubio has some catching up to do. What prospects Jagdeo and the PPP in this new political order? Don’t think that Mr. Miller has much use or patience for nonwhites. Compounding the Jagdeo challenge, Mr. Jeffries has had earfuls from a load of Black people on what is happening to certain people in Guyana. It’s the mother of understatements to assert that the House Speaker in waiting (he will be, notwithstanding rebels), has a packed agenda, his hands full. The American people has given him a mandate for change. Not a sledgehammer for payback. Go for Miller’s knees or jugular, both of which he did expose. Leave Mr. Trump and his head together. The voters said No Kings! It means no beheading. With that as the tip only, there’re still Jagdeo’s coming overtures, the PPP Govt’s angles (and subterfuges), to be dealt with, and how!

A limited, guarded, shellshocked White House is bad news for Dr. Jagdeo and the PPP Govt (the other guy is baggage). The White House is sure to be too occupied with its own domestic exposures. Ditto Marco Rubio. From Washington with love, to Washington, the suddenly barren land for Dr. Jagdeo and company. The good news is that things won’t be that bad. The oil and Exxon and AA and all these Yankee expats (and CIA types) have the run of Guyana. It counts for something. It’s just that the ground got muddy, the going harder. Duplicity and the dirty are out (to a degree). The PPP Govt has considerable difficulty dealing in such an environment. Plus, there are bags of Guyanese filling the head of Jeffries and his band of brothers of how bad the corrupt PPP aristocracy has been for Guyanese, and its successes in corrupting U.S. government agents (insights to follow).

The PPP Govt will enjoy a holiday, as Speaker Jeffries has a packed desk to clear. Domestic priorities first, and they are more than an armful. Those who don’t have a list, have axes to grind, and plenty of ideas of how to get even. On the other side of that picture, the persistent whispers of trouble and terror in PPP Guyana cannot be ignored by Jeffries and his crowd. All his advisers and Guyanese agitators have to do is to point to a crowd or two in Queens, New York. See! That’s the PPP vision of One Guyana. There’s no better, more compelling, eyewitness corroborator. Perhaps, the chameleon that is Bharrat Jagdeo could prompt him and his party to make a visit or two to Brooklyn. After all, there are Guyanese there. In my book they are, regardless of how they look in the PPP’s book.

Since the Democrats are now so red hot, and Guyana is hot in the eyes of Democrats with power, could some of them come down here to look around, to listen. Not to Offices of the President and Prime Minister, but to the PNC, IDPADA-G, and voices like Hinds, Campbell, and Walton-Desir. If the descendant of enslavers (Charles III) could be given a key to the city, why not a Democrat delegation checking out the conditions of Guyanese in Guyana? Relative to Mr. Stephen Miller, he had a heavy hand and a hardhat before. Two hardhats around the Oval office spell trouble. But Miller is a survivor and a climber. In defeat, he still rose. Now that he has the keys to the gate, he will engage in that classic American maneuver: CYA. This is all heavy stuff for Cde Jagdeo and the PPP. The free-for-all of before, when the Republicans were swaggering will now be more restrained. He would be wise to learn the basics of CYA. Forecast: menacing clouds on the horizon.
