Man shot during West Coast Berbice home invasion

A man was shot and his family robbed during a home invasion by bandits at Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice early Saturday morning.

Investigators were told the bandits carted off an undisclosed quantity of cash and jewellery.

Twenty-six years old Latchman Parmanand was shot to his left foot.

Police said that at about 1:30 AM Saturday October 17, 2015, Umgrie Parmanand, 55 years, was aroused by the sound of persons in his home.

Two men, one of whom was armed with a firearm, had entered the home through an open window and held up Umgrie Parmanand, his wife Chandroutie Parmanand, 52 years, and son Latchman Parmanand, 26 years.

The perpetrators took away an undisclosed sum of cash and a quantity of jewellery and escaped.

Latchman Parmanand has been admitted to hospital as the investigations continue.
