The Alliance for Change (AFC) on Sunday said it agreed with the results of the September 1, 2025 general and regional elections that were declared by the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM).
“Now that the Commission has officially announced that the People’s Progressive Party Civic has won these elections, we accept the declaration and extend congratulations to Dr. Irfaan Ali,” the AFC said in a statement.
The AFC barely garnered 3,610 votes from all 10 electoral districts in the 2025 polls, reflecting a major decline in its electoral performance.
In its first electoral outing in 2006, the AFC had won five seats with 28,366 votes and seven seats with 35,333 votes in 2011.
After that year, the AFC and A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) coalesced and won the 2015 elections but failed to reach another coalition agreement for the 2025 polls.
While the AFC accepted the results of Monday’s polls, that party said interacting with the GECOM was not without its challenges
That party expressed hope that GECOM and the new administration will follow up on the recommendations of the observer missions on the process leading up to the elections including on campaign finance and the misuse of state resources.
The AFC thanked Guyanese who exercised their right to vote and who remained peaceful over the past few days. “We remain committed to good governance in Guyana and will continue to advocate for justice, a fair share, equality and equity for all citizens,” the party added.
The AFC said it spent the last year preparing for the 2025 general and regional elections.
