The Commission of Inquiry on Monday, April 28 2014, began its probe into the “unnatural death” of late Guyanese politician and internationally renowned historian, Dr. Walter Rodney.
Rodney was killed on June 13,1980 in an explosion that ripped out his abdomen and blew off the roof of his brother’s parked car that he had been sitting in on John Street aback the Georgetown Prison.
Addressing the opening session were Chairman of the three-member commission, Sir Richard Cheltenham and lawyer for the Commission, Glenn Hanoman. You can listen to their presentations here.

He was questioned by Sir Richard and the two other Commissioners, Senior Counsel Seenath Jairam and Queens Counsel Jacqueline Samuels-Brown. Mr. James’ testimony on files on Rodney’s death and Special Branch files on the Working Peoples Alliance and Rodney that were tendered as evidence were the subject of that session.
