Randolph Marques
An America Street gold dealer and a wash bay attendant were Tuesday arraigned for the alleged murder of Patsan Trading sales representative, Bharrat Ramcharran in the course of committing a robbery.

They are Randolph Marques,20, and Kevin France,26, of 708 East Ruimveldt, Georgetown. Marques and his father trade in gold.

Appearing before Chief Magistrate, Priya Sewnarine-Beharry; they were not allowed to plea to the indictable charge. They were remanded to prison until May 19 when they are due to appear in court again.patsan france

The magistrate, meanwhile, ordered an investigation into an allegation by Marques’ lawyer, James Bond, that a statement was obtained from his client through inducement and trickery.

The prosecution alleges that Marques and France murdered Ramcharran on April 24 in the course of a robbery. That incident occurred at Patsan Trading’s office on John and Sheriff Street, Campbelville.

Police Prosecutor Michael Grant told the court that the investigations were incomplete and he needed three weeks to clarify a number of issues. At least 18 witnesses are due to testify in the case.

Bond said Marques was the subject of a police beating and a “rigged” identification parade.
