Police said the Phagwah revellers, who were in the vehicle, were believed to be under the influence of alcohol.

Investigators said the vehicle toppled several times while negotiating the Houston bypass. An eyewitness said one of the vehicle’s tyres punctured.

Those injured are Sharay Busby,16, Fairy Ramdat,19, Renatta Raghubir,19, Tambika Bowman, Jugraj Singh,21, Anthony Singh,21, Gabriel Hussain,17, Avinash Lazarus,15 and 21-year old Imran Khan. Busby is a student of Brickdam Secondary School.

At least three of them were in a serious condition.
