St. Lucia has lifted the quarantine from the cargo vessel, MV Lady Zai, aboard which a Guyanese sailor died and another one was sickened.

The names of the dead and sick have not been released. Sources said the sailor died from bronchial pneumonia.

Guyana’s Maritime Administration (MARAD) said the sailor has been discharged from a St. Lucian hospital. “They are also in contact with the local health authorities on this matter,” the local regulatory agency added in a statement.

MARAD assured that it was working with its counterpart in St. Lucia and the owners of the ship with respect to the welfare of the remaining eight other Guyanese aboard.

The St. Vincent and the Grenadines-registered ship left Guyana on March 9 for St. Lucia but during its voyage a sailor died.
