A former Special Constable was Thursday arraigned on charges of forging Chief Justice, Ian Chang’s signature and obtaining money by false pretence for a land case to be dismissed.
City Magistrate, Ann Mc Lennan granted 58-year old Ann Small of 228 South Sophia GUY$300,000 bail for the offences she allegedly committed between November 1, 02-01 and February 28, 2013 at Georgetown.
She was not required to plea to the indictable offences.
Small was ordered to report to the Criminal Investigations Department’s Fraud Squad every Friday. She has to return to court on April 3.
Police said Small obtained GUY$480,000 from Chandrawattie Sahadeo by pretending that she was in possession of a document bearing Chief Justice Chang’s signature. She was also charged with intent to defraud by forging a document with Chang’s signature on April 7, 2013.
Police prosecutor Dinero Jones said there are receipts to prove that Small allegedly committed the forgery.
Jones told the court that Sahadeo and her sister-in-law were involved in a civil case involving a plot of land. While on duty at the High Court as a Special Constable, she allegedly told Sahadeo that she could arrange to have the case dismissed if she provided GUY$500,000 to give the Chief Justice.
After Sahadeo said she could not have only afforded GUY$480,000 in parts, the money was duly paid and the document was uplifted.
