DirectoryGY launched as official jubilee app

A new application developed by local entrepreneurs – DirectoryGY was last evening declared the official app for Guyana’s 50th Anniversary celebration by Telecommunication and Tourism Minister Cathy Hughes at its official launching.

The application which has been in the works for close to two years features some cutting edge options that takes Guyana’s local app development domain to another level.

Essentially, the app provides an array of everyday services including a product finder, trending news stories, and an entertainment calendar. This calendar features all of the events expected to happen in Guyana at any particular period.

The product finder lists over 10,000 products available across Guyana.

What’s more the developers have mapped every single street in Georgetown and several other parts of the country. What this did is place every business place, every school, every police station in Georgetown on an easy to use map for consumers.

nearbyDeveloped by Intellect Storm, the application is available for free download in the Google Playstore and Apple AppStore.

Intellect Storm Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Rowen Willabus said that the app was conceptualized after he started building and realized that he didn’t know where to find basic items.

“Not having access to a lot of the services…when we started and we were doing construction at our place it was hard to know where to find sheet rack, ply board and what not,” he stated.

Willabus is currently awaiting Telecoms giant GTT to give the ‘ok’ for their platform to integrate with GTT’s Mobile Money App. This way purchases can be made directly through the Directory GY application.

“This is not about directory alone…this is about developers being able to process payment and having to go through Visa/Mastercard…they need to say developers come to the table and let us talk,” the CEO stated.

For her part, Tourism Minister Hughes stated that app development charters a new course for Guyanese entrepreneurs.

She said that the application “greatly enhances the tourist experience and the experience of Guyanese as we prepare to enjoy these jubilee celebrations and further it would provide extensive tourism information on our historic sites that are located all across our country.”

The Minister then declared the App as the official one for Guyana’s Jubilee celebration while urging that support be given to the App and its developers.

“We are happy to promote this partnership with Intellect Storm and to introduce DirectoryGY as the official app of Guyana’s 50th celebrations,” said Hughes.
