An employee of the Guyana Gold Board , who allegedly stole one gold bar worth GYD$2.1 million from the entity, was Monday granted GYD$200,000 bail.
Ronald Singh, 30, of 161 Hibiscus Avenue, Eccles, East Bank Demerara pleaded not guilty to the charge that he stole the bar of the precious yellow metal weighing eight ounces, nine grams. The gold was valued at GYD$2,153,034 dollars.
He was granted bail after a successful application was made by Attorney-at-Law, George Thomas to City Magistrate, Judy Latchman. The
matter will be called again on March 10 for statement, but in the interim Singh also has to lodge his passport and report periodically to the Criminal Investigations Department, Eve Leary.
Singh is accused of stealing the gold from the Guyana Gold Board on February 19, 2016 when the Manager of the Guyana Gold Board discovered that the bar was missing from the laboratory.
Police investigators were summoned and GGB laboratory staff were grilled. Prosecutor, Kerry Bostwick told the court that Singh was contacted and he later surrendered the gold bar.
