Afro-Guyanese spiritual leader of the Yoruba Ifa House of Samaria, Andrew Irvine is one of three persons who died when the speeding car they were travelling in slammed into parked a trailer on the Linden-Mabura trail, police said.
The Guyana Police Force said in a statement that Jamaican-American, Patricia Woodley, 81, also perished in the accident that occurred on Thursday night at about 9:30 on the newly-asphalted Linden-Mabura trail.
“As a result of the collision, the driver and two occupants of the hire car sustained injuries and were taken to the Linden Hospital Complex in an unconscious state where they were seen, examined and pronounced dead on arrival,” police said in a statement.
The driver of the hire car, Marcus Berley, 32, of One Mile, Wismar also died in the mishap, police also said.
Preliminary investigations, police said, revealed that the hire car HD 6751 was proceeding west along the southern side of the roadway, allegedly speeding, when it collided with the right rear of motor lorry GJJ 4000 with trailer TSS 4613, which was parked along the southern side of the road facing west.
The driver of the motor lorry, a 36-year-old man of Craig, East Bank Demerara was taken into police custody and assisting with the investigation.
