Trio charged with attempting to rob CH&PA official, two also on gun, ammo charges

Three men, who allegedly attempted to rob a senior official of the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA), were Monday refused bail and remanded to prison, the Guyana Police Force said.

They are 22-year old Yohance Carroll, an unemployed man of Tucville Squatting Area, Georgetown; 23-year old Earl Grant, a labourer of Tucville, and 23-year old Adrian Greenidge, a security guard of Cane View Squatting Area, Georgetown.

Police said they were jointly charged with attempted robbery. Additionally, Mr Greenidge and Mr Grant were individually charged with possession of a firearm without licence.

Leonora magistrate, Omadatt Chandan read the charges to the trio. They were not required to plead and were subsequently remanded to prison. The matter was adjourned to October 9, 2026.

They are accused of committing the offences on August 28, 2026 at about 6:48 A at Tuschen New Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo, on a 42-year-old man who is the CH&PA’s Director of Projects.

The man told police that he was at home when he exited through the western door to dispose of garbage. He said he returned inside, secured the door, and proceeded to his bedroom where he checked his security cameras and observed four males entering his yard, all of whom appeared to be wearing masks.

The  victim reportedly observed the men approaching his western door, attempting to open it and he immediately contacted the Police. Acting on information received, police said they intercepted three males at Fisher Dam, Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo.

“Searches were conducted on the suspects and a black suspected firearm, with three matching rounds of ammunition, was found in a haversack worn by one by the suspects. He was told of the allegation, cautioned, and arrested,” police said. The Guyana Police Force also said a further search was conducted on the other suspects, revealing another suspected firearm with three matching rounds of ammunition concealed on the person of the 23-year-old.
