Three persons have been charged with obtaining GY$4.4 million from a businessman by false pretence and forgery of an official document, police said on Tuesday.
Those charged are Paul Watson, 49, a driver of Old Road, Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo; Parbattie “Paro” Sharma, a self-employed woman and 55-year-old Omar Rudolph, a driver, both of Independence Street, La Grange, West Bank Demerara.
They were charged jointly with obtaining GY$4.4 million by false pretence and four counts of forgery of an official document.
Police said they allegedly committed the offences on a businessman, 43, of La Union Public Road, West Coast Demerara between September 2024 and May 2025.
After the charges were read to them by Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrates’ Court, they were not required to plead.
Police said they were each placed on GY$300,000 bail.
The case is adjourned to February 17, 2026.
