In this 2024 file photo, the Royal Bahamas Police Force displays a collection of high-powered weapons that were discovered in bushes on New Providence.

A Guyanese was among ten foreigners who were arrested on Tuesday after authorities in The Bahamas discovered contraband, including three high-powered weapons, firearms, and ammunition on a vessel that was docked in Bimini, the Nassau Guardian reported on Wednesday.

“Preliminary reports indicate that shortly after 11:30 a.m., acting on intelligence, a joint team of officers from the Alice Town Police Station and the Bahamas Customs Department searched a vessel docked at a port,” police said in a press statement.

“During the search, officers discovered three high-powered weapons, 11 firearms, a substantial quantity of ammunition, and a considerable sum of undeclared cash.”

Police said the discovery led to the arrest of the ten occupants of the vessel, eight Americans, one South African, and a Guyanese. The suspects are between the ages of 21 and 62, police said.

The undeclared cash, along with the weapons and ammunition, were confiscated.
