A drug addict has been arrested in connection with the brutal rape and strangulation of his great aunt at her home at Hopetown, West Coast Berbice.
Police said Vaulda Britton died because she was deprived of oxygen due to manual strangulation.
The incident allegedly occurred between Sunday, September 4 and Monday, September 5, 2015.
Demerara Waves Online News was told that Britton’s grand daughter saw the man during the pre-dawn hours of Monday standing naked over the elderly woman. Relatives alleged that the man also had anal and vaginal intercourse with the woman.
The suspected perpetrator told the little girl to be quiet, placed the woman on the bed before fleeing the house.
The little girl raised an alarm, a report was made to the police several hours later and the suspect was caught in the backlands.
