The fire at Strathspey, East Coast Demerara.
Traffic snarled as curious motorists slowed down to take a glimpse of the fire.
Fire Chief Marlon Gentle told Demerara Waves Online News that one of two elderly persons living in a small old wooden house knocked down a lamp. The house had no electricity.
The couple fled the building not before the man sustained minor burns to one of his hands.
A small general store located next door was scorched and a number of windows were shattere, said Gentle.
Wednesday night’s fire was the fourth for the week.
