The Ogle International Airport was Thursday morning closed briefly after a domestic aircraft ran off the runway shortly before departing for Lethem, a spokesman for the airport said.

The Trans Guyana Cessna Caravan ran off the runway at about 9AM due to brake failure. No one was injured and the plane was not damaged, the spokesman told Demerara Waves Online News.

The spokesman said the airport was closed for about 15 minutes in keeping with standard operational procedures.

The incident, which was reported to the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), occurred at “the beginning of the runway where the plane turns around.”

The spokesman said the brake failure resulted in the plane running off the tarmac on the side of the runway which was extremely soft due to the recent flood.
