Former Secretary to the Treasury dies

Former Secretary to Guyana’s Treasury and Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T), Dr. Claude Chang died in the United States (US).

He was 74.

Chang, who was terminally ill, passed away in Colorado, United States on Sunday 31st of May. He was buried on Monday June 1st, 2015.

Chang served as Secretary to the Treasury from 2000 to 2001, and Deputy CEO of GT&T from 2001 to 2002

He authored three books: Aggressive Capitalism- The Overleveraging of America’s Wealth, Integrity, and Dollar; Territoriality and the Westernization Imperative, and Privatization and Development

He was also a member of the Governing Council of the University of Guyana, and a member of the Board of the Bank of Guyana.

He was a Lecturer in Economics at Johnson’s and Wales University and the Australia-headquartered Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in Vietnam.

He was the husband of Bebe Chang, a former journalist at the now defunct Guyana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) and Stabroek News.

Dr. Chang  was the father of four children from a previous marriage.
