A man, who allegedly defrauded the owner of Fazia’s Collections of GUY$300,000 that he was asked to give to a travel agent, was Thursday granted bail.

He is 24-year old Quincy Smith of 4 Vryheid’s Lust, East Coast Demerara.  During his arraignment before Chief Magistrate, Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, he pleaded innocent to the charge.

Smith was granted $75,000, after he said he could not have afforded GUY$120,000.

The case has been transferred to Magistrate Geeta Chandan-Edmond before whom he has to appear on July 18, 2014.

Particulars of the offence are that between September 1 and 30, 2013 at Georgetown, he was solely entrusted by the owner of Fazia’s Collections, Terry Anderson with the sum of GUY$300,000. He was asked to take the money to Collin Changur of Muneshwer’s Travel Agency, but instead he allegedly fraudulently converted the money to his own use and benefit.
