Taxi driver charged with sexually assaulting teenage passenger

Last Updated on Wednesday, 2 July 2014, 2:47 by GxMedia

Kester David
An East Berbice taxi driver was Tuesday arraigned on a charge of sexually penetrating a 15-year old child who was his passenger.

Thirty-year old Kester David of Heathburn Village, East Bank Berbice was granted GUY$75,000 by New Amsterdam Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus. He was ordered to return to court on July 18.

The victim, whose name has been withheld to protect her identity, is expected to receive counselling by an order of the court.

David was not required to plea to the indictable charge which states that on March 27, 2014 at Belle View, East Bank Berbice he engaged in sexual penetration of a child.

Police Prosecutor, Gordon Playter told the court that the taxi driver picked up the teenage girl from an Internet Café in New Amsterdam to transport her to her residence. Instead, he picked up someone else at Edinburgh Village and after taking that person to the destination, he stopped the vehicle and went to the back seat where he allegedly performed the unlawful sex act.

Playter said when the girl arrived home, she appeared depressed and after recounting her experience to her mother,  a complaint was made at the New Amsterdam Police Station.

The married man, who has an 18-month old child, was arrested. A medical examination of the girl showed that she was sexually assaulted.
