Guyanese Lisa Punch moves to 2nd round of US network’s musical competition

Last Updated on Monday, 23 June 2014, 1:29 by GxMedia

Lisa Punch

Guyanese Lisa Punch Sunday night scored 80 percent and made it through to the next round of the US network ABC’s Rising Star,a musical competition.

The second person to appear on the show, Punch sang Whitney Houston’s “How Will I Know” moments after she talked a but about her Guyanese background and her aspirations for social and economic mobility in the US.  The appearance of the Brooklyn-based singer came less than one year since she migrated.

ABC reinvents the traditional singing competition as—for the first time ever—the audience has the final say in real time. During the performances, viewers vote via an App to determine if the singer will advance in the competition. If the voting reaches a certain threshold, the performer moves on.
