GRA boss takes vacation leave; others instructed to proceed on accumulated vacation leave

Last Updated on Monday, 20 July 2015, 19:22 by GxMedia

GRA Commissioner General Kurshid Sattaur.

by Zena Henry

Head of fhe Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) Khursid Sattaur has taken vacation leave while several others have been told to proceed on vacation leave after it was realised that those persons had accumulated numerous days of leave.

Minister of  Finance Winston Jordan told Demerara Waves Monday July 20 that Sattaur requested at least three weeks leave and it was granted.

He said it was also recognised that the other persons sent off had accumulated about 200 to 300 days leave due to them.

“I told them to go home and take a rest.” It is understood that some 20 persons were sent on their due leave.

Sattaur later dispatched the following statement to Demerara Waves Online News:

The Management of the Guyana Revenue Authority sees it necessary at this time for Senior Managers who would have accumulated leave over the years to be allowed to proceed on same in an effort to guarantee better management.

As such, all Senior Managers of the Authority who have deferred annual leave will begin proceeding on their leave with effect from July 21, 2015. However, some Senior Managers will have their leave staggered in order to facilitate continuity of the Agency’s operations.

Additionally, contrary to reports circulating as it relates to the Commissioner-General, Mr. Khurshid Sattaur proceeding on annual leave, it should be noted that Mr. Sattaur requested his annual leave and this was subsequently granted.

The Guyana Revenue Authority wishes to assure the general public that this decision will not hinder the services provided to the public.
