Three armed men robbed a Chinese supermarket at Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara late on Friday night, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) said in a statement.
Owner of China #11 supermarket, Zhuangshui Xu, a 38-year-old male told police he was robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash and GYD$50,000 worth of Digicel and One Guyana phone cards.
The alleged armed robbery occurred on October 10 at about 9:44 p.m. by three males armed with a gun and a cutlass.
The victim said the suspects approached him and demanded that he hand over the cash to them.
One of the suspects entered the cashier area and took out the day’s sales from the cash register and placed it in a black plastic bag along with the Digicel and One Guyana phone cards,” the GPF said.
The suspects escaped on foot in an unknown direction, police also said.
Zhuangshui informed police he was in the supermarket behind the cashier counter, receiving payments from customers, when he observed the suspects entering the supermarket.
He said one of the suspects was dressed in a camouflage hoodie and dark coloured pants with a black cloth around his face and armed with a handgun; one with a long sleeve grey and blue jersey and blue pants with blue cloth around his face and armed with a knife, and the third suspect was dressed in a long sleeve blue jersey and dark colour pants with a grey cloth around his face armed with a cutlass.
Several persons were questioned as investigations continue, police said.
