Minister of the Public Service, Government Efficiency and Implementation Zulfikar Ally will be tackling slothfulness and bottlenecks as the new PPPC administration aims to fast-track projects and programmes over the next five years.
Mr Ally said he would be working closely with President Irfaan Ali to ensure that the work of the administration is not stymied, but was quick to point out that that would be on a case-by-case basis. “If he sees that there is an area that needs to be addressed, he will ask me to look into it,” the minister told Demerara Waves Online News.
Mr Ally said the Government Efficiency and Implementation aspect of his ministerial portfolio is geared for Guyana’s fast-paced economic growth and development. “We cannot do business as we are accustomed to do business. Agencies are no longer executing 10 or 15 projects per year. They are doing hundreds of projects per year so it requires that everyone is updated to the best practices, the best ways of managing their portfolio of projects,” said Mr Ally, a former president of the American Chamber of Commerce Guyana (AMCHAM) and former head of the Multilateral Financial and Institutions Department of the Ministry of Finance.
The Public Service, Government Efficiency and Implementation minister also said the administration would be using artificial intelligence and other types of technologies to “simplify the process” and provide vastly improved services to the public. “At the end of the day, service to the people is what counts so bringing the project in on time counts but also doing so in a very transparent manner, delivering public service to the people of Guyana that they can wake up and they can access government services, they can know what is happening in their communities,” he said.
A lawyer by profession, Mr Ally also represented Guyana at the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank. While Group Corporate Secretary for Queens Atlantic Investment Inc; he also was a stakeholder representative in the Private Sector Commission (PSC) and the Guyana Manufacturing and Services Association (GMSA).
