Elvin Mc David, a former Political Assistant to then Prime Minister Forbes Burnham, has died, according to the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR).
He passed away in Jamaica where he had been residing with his son while receiving medical attention for complications related to diabetes, according to other sources.
The PNCR says it extends its deepest condolences to Mr. Mc David’s children, brother and relatives.
Mc David also served as Minister of Information and Culture (1971-1972) and Ambassador to the then Soviet Union.
He is credited with much of the pioneering work for the hosting of the first Caribbean Festival of the Arts (Carifesta) and the establishment of the now defunct Guyana National Service (GNS).
He was born in Georgetown on the 10th June 1944 and was educated at St Mary’s RC School, St Stanislaus College, University of Birmingham and the University of the West Indies.
