A policeman was shot and injured by one of his colleagues after he was seen with a gun in his hand, police sources said.
Constable Leroy English sustained injuries to right hand and right foot at about 12:30 Wednesday morning on the Eccles Public Road. “He has been admitted to hospital for medical treatment,” said the Guyana Police Force in a statement.
The sources said English was pursuing someone with his service firearm in his hand when another colleague saw him and opened fire.
Both policemen are from the plainclothes section of the Guyana Police Force.
Demerara Waves Online News was told that investigators would rely on ballistic tests and written explanations before taking the matter to the Police Force’s Office of Professional Responsibility.
