Last Updated on Friday, 29 August 2014, 20:58 by GxMedia

A group of persons looked on as efforts were being made to locate the body of the man.
An employee of Barama Company Limited (BCL) drowned Friday during Barama Cricket Day held at Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara.

He has been identified as 19-year old Sean Hopkinson of Fire Station Road, Timehri, East Bank Demerara. Police said his body was discovered late Friday afternoon.

Sources said the man, who is employed as a labourer, and several other persons decided to swim in a canal that is parallell to the road.

Staff members were at time participating in an inter-departmental competition. But as news of the incident spread, company executives and other staff members went to the scene.
