An elderly man was Tuesday granted GUY$1 million bail after he denied causing the death of a University of Guyana (UG) employee by dangerous driving.Latchman “Latchie” Sukhdeo,48, was killed on August 6, 2014 at Dennis Street, Campelville, Georgetown while he was riding to work at UG.
But 69-year old Balgobin Persaud of 155 Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara denied that he drove a forklift in a manner dangerous to the public, resulting in the man’s death.
Georgetown Magistrate, Judy Latchman ordered the accused to return to court on September 25, 2014.
The prosecution’s short facts on the case are that about 8 AM, Persaud drive the forklift out of a mining company’s compound, turned west on Dennis Street, Campbelville and collided with Sukhdeo who was riding his motorcycle.
Sukhdeo sustained a serious wound to his neck and he died of excessive bleeding.
The prosecutor did not oppose bail and added that the accused was on station bail and fully cooperated with police investigations.
