A 26-year old woman was killed in a gruesome accident on the Non Pariel Main Road, East Coast Demerara when a car slammed into her after the driver avoided hitting another female.
The victim has been identified as 26-year old Navita Ishram of Non Pariel.
Police said the woman was standing on the road when she was struck down by a motor vheicle. She was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Investigators have arrested the driver of the motor vehicle.
An eyewitness said the driver swerved his car to avoid hitting a woman and instead slammed into Ishram. The eyewitness said the victim suffered multiple fractures and a huge gash to her head.
