Woman died of stab wounds- autopsy

The woman, whose decomposed remains were found last week in a clump of bushes, died of stab wounds, according to an autopsy conducted Monday.

The autopsy was conducted by Government Pathologist, Dr. Nehaul Singh. “He gave the cause of death as due to incised wounds to the abdomen,” said police spokesman, Ivelaw Whittaker said in a statement.

The unidentified body of a woman was found in thick vegetation near a utility pole on July 24, 2014.

While there is no conclusive scientific evidence, the identity of the remains fit those of missing St. Stanislaus College teacher, 34-year old Nyozi Goodman. A DNA test is to be conducted to determine if it is her remains.

Head of the Criminal Investigations Department, Leslie James said two persons have been questioned so far but he declined to say whether sleuths were nearing a breakthrough.

An examination revealed that the body was that of a woman between 25 and 40 years, had decaying dentures just as Goodman and was about five feet five inches tall.

Goodman was last seen in early July at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue where she had accompanied her school’s team to the National Basketball Championships.

A bag and umbrella believed to be hers were found in the Botanical Gardens last week.
