Rice farmer killed during toilet quarrel with sister’s partner

Last Updated on Tuesday, 22 July 2014, 6:12 by GxMedia

KILLED: Alvy Richmond
A rice farmer of Strath Campbell, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara was stabbed to death in his yard by a man, who shared a visiting relationship with his sister,  after the two men argued about the need to urgently access the toilet.

The dead man has been identified as 52-year old Alvy Richmond of Lot 10 Strath Campell.

His assailant, Travis Hyman, of the same village was arrested by public spirited citizens shortly after he fled the scene and was handed over to police.

Richmond’s 11-year old daughter, Neon Richmond, witnessed the killing, according to the deceased  man’s mother, Ernestine Richmond.

She told Demerara Waves Online News that her son returned home about 5:30 PM Sunday with several food items and hurriedly said he wanted to defaecate.

Ernestine recalled that when her son knocked and shook the door to the bathroom and toilet, which share one entrance, Hyman refused to open and told him that he was bathing. The woman said her son even suggested to Hyman that he could have backed the door and opened it to allow him to enter.

She said after Alvy defaecated, Hyman continued to curse him and told him that he could carry their disagreement on the streets.  Ernestine said her son then ordered Hyman to leave the house and the yard because he was disrespectful to him and her.

Hyman then allegedly walked up to Alvy and stabbed him to his left side chest. He collapsed at the bottom of the stairs with the knife stuck in his body.

Ernestine said Alvy and Hyman never had any previous verbal exchange and she was surprised at his behavior. “This life is something else. Yeah, is true. Yuh feed up magga dog, one day he got fuh tun bite yuh hand,” she remarked.
