The Guyana Lottery Company (GLC) welcomes government’s move to have a new legislation to govern the betting industry and is ready for consultations before the bill is passed and signed into law, Director and General Manager Kalima Ali said Friday night.

“We welcome the government’s direction to better regulate the market through the introduction of the Guyana Gaming Authority Bill 2026 and we support efforts to establish a modern, transparent and well-regulated gaming environment,” she said.

Speaking at the GLC’s 30th anniversary dinner and awards ceremony, she acknowledged the need for a framework that would support the evolution of the gaming industry.  “We believe that this legislation will strengthen oversight, enhance confidence and support the continued development of Guyana’s gaming sector,” she said. She said GLC looked forward to consultations on the proposed legislation.

Already, she said her company and its parent, Canadian Bank Note, places great emphasis on compliance. “When you hear compliance, know that it’s an integral part of operation, and without it, there would be no operation,” she said. ‘

The company said over its 30-years of existence, it has contributed to personal development of winners and the growth of  more than 200 small businesses through its retail agent network and Guyana’s economy. “We have also contributed largely and meaningfully to the national treasury of Guyana and those monies have been used over the years to fund some of the very programmes that the government brings to you in your communities,” the GLC Managing Director said.
