Woman denies accusations by Prime Minister’s son

A police officer’s sister was Friday arraigned for alleged threatening behaviour and wounding in a case involving Samuel Hinds Jr.- the Prime Minister’s son.

City Magistrate, Geeta Chandan-Edmond placed 31-year old Tenza Layne on GUY$25,000 bail for the offences allegedly committed on her sister, Cadet Officer Herbert, and Hinds Jr.

Layne pleaded innocent to the charges that state that on February 27 at Duke Street, Kingston she allegedly used threatening language and assaulted Hinds Jr. to cause him actual bodily harm. The woman also pleaded not guilty not guilty to a charge of threatening behaviour to her sister, Herbert.

The trial for charges against Prime Minister’s son began on Friday with Layne and another person testifying. Layne was given until March 25 to recover from a cold and compose herself because she was hoarse and began crying. The Magistrate said she was unable to hear the woman.

Hinds is accused of threatening behaviour against Layne, resulting in a breach of the peace, and unlawfully and maliciously wounding her on the ground and beating her with a cane.

His lawyer, Sanjeev Datadin, acknowledged that his client pulled his licensed firearm but denied that the weapon was cranked. Datadin explained that his client decided to pull his weapon after the woman had allegedly uplifted a knife from the kitchen and threatened to use it.

Hinds was granted bail and ordered to lodge his firearm and passport.
