Suspected wife killer caught in Suriname four years later

Last Updated on Saturday, 26 December 2015, 20:59 by GxMedia

A man, who allegedly killed his wife during a drinking spree four years ago and fled to neighbouringh Suriname, was Monday arraigned for her murder.

Deputy Police Commissioner, Seelall Persaud said Davenand “Brother” Albert was handed by Surinamese police to their Guyanese counterparts at the weekend.

He was subsequently charged with the murder of his 43-year old wife, Esther “Kamla” Albert.  The man appeared in the Whim Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh.

Albert was not required to plea to the capital offence and he was remanded to prison until April 4 when he will appear in the Springlands Magistrates’ Court.

The woman was found on March 4, 2010 in the house at Lot One 1803 Crabwood Creek she shared with her husband and children. Almost immediately, the man had disappeared and had fuelled speculation about his alleged involvement.

An autopsy has shown that the woman died from manual strangulation.

Investigators back then had been told that the couple had been imbibing the day before. When they returned , an argument erupted and he allegedly assaulted her.
