Sustaining serious gunshot injuries are 38-year old David Harpaul of Rose Hall Town, Corentyne; 48- year old Clement Griffith of Ankerville, Port Mourant, Corentyne and 25-year old Zameel Abrahim of Black Bush Polder, Corentyne. They are employed by the owner of Spready’s, Kase Manoj Singh. Abrahim was transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
The reason for the men being shot was not immediately clear. However, they were attacked by one man on horseback and two others on foot.
The men were shot while they were leaving the Port Mourant Follow-Up Coop where several well-known businessmen are cultivating rice.
One of the survivors said they had finished working and were in a 15-horse power boat when they were ambushed. Harpaul, who was shot to his right side, informed Pharmacist Poonai Bhirgoon by cell phone what had transpired. He piloted the boat to an area where he was rescued and rushed to hospital.
The three injured men- Harpaul, Griffith and Abrahim – were later spotted and taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital. The bodies of Layne and Jagdeo were later found by the famers and businessman. Layne sustained a gunshot wound to his neck and Jagdeo was shot to his temple.
