Delon Abrams was not required to plea to the indictable offence when he appeared before Chief Magistrate, Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
Police said he shot dead Detective Corporal, Seburn Elias at Alberttown, Georgetown on January 6.
Abrams was remanded to prison until March 3 after Police Prosecutor Bharrat Mangru told the court that the investigation was incomplete.
Mangru informed the court that the murder-accused was earlier that day taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation for medical treatment to injuries he sustained while being beaten because of he had allegedly broken and entered and stole someone’s property.
While at the hospital, Abram asked to use the washroom and was escorted there. Police said both of the detainee’s hands were handcuffed but he managed to loosen one side and attacked Constable Green. He grabbed the .38 revolver and escaped.
Police were deployed and Abrams was later seen in a yard stooping under a step. He opened fire on Corporal Elias who demanded that he handed over the weapon.
An autopsy revealed that Corporal Elias died from shock and haemorrhage due to gunshot injuries. A .38 warhead was retrieved from his abdomen.
