Bandits have grabbed some $18M dollars in two armed robberies within a 12-hour period, according to police reports.
The force reported that around 8.30AM Friday Rajiv Singh, 21, a clerk attached to a city store, was robbed of a carton box containing some $17.2M dollars as he was about to enter a commercial bank on Avenue of the Republic.
He was held up by two men armed with handguns, the force said.
Meanwhile, Desmond Edwards, 38, of ‘C’ Field, Cummings Lodge, ECD, was shot and injured to his right foot during a robbery in ‘B’ Field, Sophia around 9.30PM Thursday.
“Investigations have revealed that Desmond Edwards and two females were passengers in a motor car that had stopped to put off one of the females. At this point two men armed with handguns approached and held them up and took away a total of $720,000.00 (Guyana currency), a sum of US and Canadian currency, three cell phones and the victims’ jewellery,” the police stated.
According to the police release, Edwards put up a resistance during the robbery and was shot to his foot by the men who escaped in a waiting motor vehicle.
He was admitted to the GPHC for medical treatment.
