Two gold miners were Sunday night robbed and one of them was shot in the process by two bandits, police said.
Investigators were told that about 11 PM Francis Mc Pherson, 38, of Lime Street, Georgetown, and Eon Bourne, 30, of Port Kaituma, North West District, were travelling on an All Terrain Vehicle along the trail at Hymakuru Backdam, Port Kaituma.
There, they were held up by two men armed with handguns.
Police said that during the armed robbery Bourne was shot and injured to his right thigh by the perpetrators who took away a quantity of gold and escaped.
Armed robberies and homicides are quite common place in Guyana’s gold bearing districts.
