Several in Ruby accident transferred to GPHC

Last Updated on Saturday, 26 December 2015, 21:00 by GxMedia

Several injured persons outside one of the minibuses that was involved in the collision

A drunken driver might have been responsible for Saturday afternoon’s minibus collision that left more than one dozen persons injured.

The accident occured at Ruby, East Bank Essequibo.

They include Cheryl Ramnarayn- an instructor at the New Opportunity Corps (NOC), Onderneeming, Essequibo Coast- and the intoxicated driver of the other minibus.

He has been identified as Bissoon Roopnarine. Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) workers were overheard telling an apparently unstable Roopnarine that if he had not consumed alcohol he would not have been injured.

While the names of all of the injured were not immediately available, the others were identified as a Olinda Bowling,15, of Parika; Kissandra Garraway,36, of Bush Lot, Essequibo; Maureen Daniels; Ramona Doodnauth,28, of Tuschen; 15-year old Paul Clarke and 38-year old Faber Lanferman.

Lanferman and the other injured persons were among 13 passengers in a minibus that was travelling west when the accident occurred shortly after 4:30 PM. He recalled seeing the accident occur.

“I actually saw our bus and the other vehicle heading towards one another. We were in our lane. The other bus came over on our side,” Lanferman told Demerara Waves Online News (www.demwaves.com).
