Wife-kissing cited in Jagdeo’s alleged murder of biker

City businessman Rondy Jagdeo allegedly shot dead his “close” friend, Kurt Davis, because he had received information that he was seen kissing his wife in a night club, the court was told Wednesday.

Jagdeo was Wednesday arraigned for allegedly murdering Davis on September 3 at Eccles, East Bank Demerara.

Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry remanded the businessman to prison until November 21 for police to complete their investigations and report to the court. It is on that date she is expected to fix a date for the commencement of the Preliminary Inquiry to determine whether there is enough evidence for Jagdeo to face trial by a judge and jury.

The Chief Magistrate remarked that the Preliminary Inquiry should not take long when Police Prosecutor, Bharat Mangru told the court that he has six witnesses in the case.

Mangru told the court that Jagdeo had received information that Davis had allegedly kissed his (Jagdeo’s) wife at Palm Court, Main Street.

The prosecution further alleged that Jagdeo drove a silver Allion motor car in front of Davis’ home and called out for him. Davis entered the back seat and shortly after Jagdeo exited the driver’s door, opened the back door and fired several shots at Davis.

The injured man was dumped out of the car. He was later rushed to the  Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where he was pronounced dead on arrival. An autopsy has revealed that Davis was shot 16 times.

Jagdeo surrendered to police on October 28 and was charged with murder. He is being represented by lawyers Mark Waldron and Roger Yearwood but they were not in court during the arraignment.

Standing in was another Attorney-at-Law who emphasised that the police had sufficient time to complete their investigation and as such he wanted an early date for report and fixture for the commencement of the Preliminary Inquiry.
