Top cop names biker’s killer at vigil outside police station

Hundreds of bikers and other associates of Kurt Davis, who was gunned down outside his home, Sunday night participated in a vigil and solidarity ride that prompted Police Commissioner Leroy Brummel to assure them that the search was continuing for the assailant.

While the Guyana Police Force has not issued a wanted bulletin, Brummel for the first time gave the name of the suspect to several bikers who gathered outside the A Division Headquarters on Brickdam.

The full name of the wanted man has been given as Randy Jagdeo who is a businessman on Water Street, Georgetown.

A clearly agitated Police Commissioner emerged from his car and asked Davis’ supporters why they were pressuring the police force. He assured them repeatedly that investigators were working to capture the suspected killer. “We are working on it, right. We are working on it. We have gotten who is the person and we are working on it so I don’t know why you all are pressurizing headquarters,” he said.

Asked what the state of the probe was, Brumell said “they are going fine.” He did not say why no wanted bulletin was issued, but instead blurted out: “Y’all ain’t hear is a Jagdeo did it,” said the top cop.

Before the bikers and other motorists departed the 1763 Square of the Revolution where there was a candlelight vigil, political activist Mark Benschop lamented to those gathered the fact that no wanted bulleting has been issued. “As of now, no wanted bulletin has been issued for the perpetrator and this by itself is an injustice.”

Benschop emphasised that the peaceful action was intended to send a clear message to senior members of the Guyana Police Force that justice must be dispensed fairly regardless of whether the accused was rich and able to buy themselves out of trouble.

“We cannot have selective justice that you issue one set of bulletins for people and they other set of people you tend to cover up,” he said.

Davis was shot at least 11 times on September 3 outside his home at 7th Street, Eccles, East Bank Demerara by someone he knew.

Investigators were working on the theory that Davis had been having intimate relations with someone very close to Jagdeo.

A woman, who knew Davis, turned up at the Woodlands Hospital with a gunshot wound to one of her legs the same night that the man was shot dead. However, she claimed that she was robbed. Eventually, police learnt that she is Jagdeo’s sister-in-law.
