A young carpenter is now on remand following his court appearance on six counts of illegal ammunition possession and robbery under arms at several West Bank Demerara villages.

He is alleged to have robbed several persons of more than GYD$700,000 in cash and phone cards.

Police alleged that on October 11, 2016 at Parfait Harmonie, West Bank Demerara, while in the company of others and armed with guns, Andrew Davis Hescott robbed Laurel Price of $60,000, property of Jesus Restoreth Supermarket. Also, on October 14, 2016, while in the company of others at La Grange, West Bank Demerara, he used a gun and robbed Thi Xiong Xie of $200,000 cash and a quantity of phone cards, amounting to a total value of $280,000. These items were the property of World Supermarket.

Another charge against the accused reads that on October 15, 2016 at Parfait Harmonie, West Bank Demerara, he had in his possession three .32 rounds of ammunition without being the holder of a firearm license.

He is also charged with robbing Anand Persaud of $24, 260 on that same date and in the same jurisdiction. Again on October 15, 2016 at Parfait Harmonie, Hescott and others allegedly robbed Ron Willie of $168,000 while armed with a gun. On the same day, at Onderneeming on the West Bank of Demerara, the defendant was again in the company of others and armed with a gun when he robbed Ashley Persaud of $100,000 cash and $75,000 worth in phone cards (total value $175,000), property of Double J Supermarket.

The battered looking 23-year-old was only required to plead to the charge of ammo possession, as all the others were indictable matters.

He pleaded not guilty, and was remanded by Chief Magistrate Ann Mc Lennan. His matter has been transferred to the Wales Magistrate Court and will be called again on November 3, 2016.
