A suspected serial bandit, who was arrested earlier this week, has confessed to committing several armed robberies on the East Coast Demerara and he is expected to be arraigned on Thursday, the Guyana Police Force said in a statement.

Investigators said the man was also “positively identified” as a perpetrator during several identification parades. “The suspect was positively identified during several identification parades conducted today (Wednesday), in relation to six recent armed robberies,” police said.

He was arrested at Bare Root Monday shortly after he and several others robbed a grocer at Enmore, stole a motor car and discharged rounds at law enforcer during attempts to arrest them. The four others escaped.

The suspect of Bare Root, East Coast Demerara, according to police, has confessed to the allegations and has admitted to being a member of a gang who committed a series of armed robberies on the East Coast of Demerara.

Police said the arrest of the man has led them to solve a number of serious crimes committed within recent times.

In addition to his arrest on Monday, police also recovered a stolen motor car, an unlicensed handgun with 12 rounds of ammunition and the apprehension of one of four suspected bandits who had robbed a grocer at LogWood, Enmore.

At about 3:45 PM Monday, August 29, 2016 the grocer was in his home when he was confronted by four masked men, all armed with firearms, who assaulted him and demanded cash and jewellery.

The men then carted off a quantity of valuables including a licensed handgun with 15 rounds of ammunition and made good their escape from the premises. They then hijacked a motor car and proceeded in the vicinity of Bare Root.

“They were then observed by ranks of two police patrols acting in a suspicious manner and upon realizing that they had attracted the attention of the police, they opened fire on the patrols, abandoned the motor car and fled to the backlands of Bare Root,” police said.

A number of live rounds and spent shells were also found in the stolen motor car which was taken into custody of the police.
