Amna Ally lashes out at Opp. for “warped” renaming of Cohesion Ministry

Minister Amna Ally

Last Updated on Thursday, 11 February 2016, 15:16 by Writer

Amna Ally, Minister of Social Cohesion has defended her Ministry saying that it is necessary.

This is against the backdrop of several statements made during the 2016 debate that the Ministry is being used for ‘social bribery.”

However, Ally during her budget presentation stated that anyone who would see to change the name of the Ministry in such a manner has a “warped mind.”

The Minister also addressed claims that the APNU+AFC administration was being divisive and maligning supporters of the Opposition in the placement of minibuses and other methods of transport for school children.

But, Ally says that this is not the case and made it clear that “the APNU+AFC will not be daunted by the accusations of your distribution.”

She detailed that under the Three B’s project several inroads into social cohesion have been made with the distribution of Minibuses, boats and bicycles in regions 1, 3, 6, 7 & 9.

It was noted too that some 300 bicycles have been distributed and these have gone to students who have to travel far distances to get to school.

“Sorry if your supporters are gravitating to us….We will continue these partnerships and give children the opportunity to attend school,” said Ally.

The Government Chief Whip also urged that the Opposition side of the House lay their differences aside and work with the Government.

“I urge those Honorable members on the other side of the house to lay their difference aside, put our hands to the plow…and make here a paradise,” he said.

Relative to Social Cohesion President David Granger recently stated that the distribution of the bicycles will be instrumental in bridging a divide between children in school.

He explained that students will no longer have to be subjected to the ridicule of their peers for having to work long distances to school.

The President also revealed that there are plans to expand the project to include breakfast for school children.
