Police Commissioner, Guyana Ex-Police Association of America at odds over NY fund-raiser, contact

Last Updated on Thursday, 12 November 2015, 23:23 by GxMedia

Police Commissioner, Seelall Persaud.
The Guyana Ex-Police Association of America Inc. and  Guyana’s Police Commissioner, Seelall Persaud are at odds over his participation in an event organised by a group in New York to raise funds for the children of policemen and women who have died in the line of duty.

But the Commissioner of Police questioned the motive of the association. “I question the intent of the release and if the organization wants to advise the commissioner, why do that publicly. I am unaware of any plan by the organization to do anything for the Force,” he told Demerara Waves Online News.

The Association’s members flayed Persaud for failing to consult them or he would have learned that there is no registered organisation named “Friends of Guyana Police Force” which has organised the event to raise funds or the Children’s Education Fund for November 14, 2015 at the Naresh’s Place, Queens, New York.

“NY Department of State Division of Corporations has no legally registered company by such name, as such, any entity purporting to raise funds for such an event is doing so illegally and is in breach of Federal, State and City laws, taking this into consideration the Commissioner should be careful to be associated with such an event,” said the Guyana Ex-Police Association of America Inc.

The Guyana Ex-Police Association of America Inc; registered non-profit entity since 1967, said it was puzzled why Commissioner Persaud did not seek its advice. The US-based entity said it has always shown its support by making various donations and contribution to the Force Scholarship Fund and other initiatives.

“Further, the Commissioner has never found it prudent to visit the Guyana Ex Police Association of America when he is in the New York area although an open invitation was extended to him,” said that body.

But Persaud said “There was absolutely no communication between the organization and the Offfice of the Commissioner for the year. Also I have never had any invitation of whatever sort from the organization . I do not know the President and don’t remember ever meeting him.”
