GRA workers falling ill at worksite; GSPU asks for gov’t intervention

Guyana Public Service Union (GPSU) President Patrick Yarde has revealed that several members of staff from the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) have fallen ill over the past weeks as a result of an existing condition in the complex.

Yarde made the statement at the GPSU’s 21 st Biennial Congress where he called for the government to intervene and ensure that workers are healthy at the Revenue Authority.

“It has come to our attention that some members of staff of GRA have been experiencing health issues arising out of conditions inside the complex,” said Yarde.

He pointed out that the Union recognizes the importance of the staff compliment at GRA and therefore it is important that the government and relevant authorities address the issue with a matter of urgency.

Yarde stated that if the illness is directly linked to conditions at the GRA building, then the government should stand the medical and other expenses that were foisted onto those that have taken ill, as it should naturally do.

GRA officially moved all of its offices to the Camp Street location in October of 2012, centralizing all of its services.

The Building houses close to 300 employees in the different departments.
